A casting notice was looking for people with an interesting reason for missing their high school prom — for a Bravo pilot, not the show Devin actually wanted. But the same casting company also cast for Food Network, so she applied anyway.
Then her father landed in the hospital, and she called to back out.
They called her back: “What if we throw the prom at your high school?” At 31 years old, she went to her actual senior prom, cameras rolling.
The pilot never aired. But the relationship it built led to a Food Network pitch — proof that the room you walk into is sometimes worth more than the reason you walked in.
